Establishment of the bilateral relations

On December 26, 1991 the Republic of Hungary recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on April 27, 1991.

On March 30, 2010 Dr. Vilayat Guliyev was appointed as an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Hungary and on July 12, 2010 presented his credentials to Mr. László Sólyom, the former President of the Republic of Hungary.

The Embassy of Hungary in the Republic of Azerbaijan started its activity on January 12, 2009.

On September 12, 2017 the current Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Hungary to Azerbaijan Mr. Viktor Szederkényi presented his credentials to H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
