A performance dedicated to the 20 January tragedy was demonstrated in Budapest
The 34th anniversary of the 20 January - National Mourning Day was commemorated at the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Hungary. Azerbaijani students studying in Hungary and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora participated in the event organized jointly with the Association of Youth Integration and Development (AYID).
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Tahir Taghizade noted that the 20 January tragedy is a heroic page in the history of Azerbaijan. He emphasized that National Leader Heydar Aliyev's visit to Azerbaijan's permanent representative office in Moscow on January 21 to demonstrate his solidarity with his native people on that difficult day is not only a sign of a strong political will, but also high patriotism. The Ambassador said that this tragedy was given a political and legal assessment for the first time in independent Azerbaijan precisely at the initiative of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Then a short film dedicated to the tragedy was shown.
Later, the play "Just before the explosion..." written by Nazim Musabayli, a young Azerbaijani studying in Budapest, inspired by the poem "Martyrs" by the People's Poet Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, was presented. The roles in the play were performed by young Azerbaijanis studying in Hungary and actors of the Russian Theater in Budapest.
