Science, education, book publishing 

In 2018, the book “…We believed that our people will live independently” written by Alimardan bey Topchubashov, who had significant role in the history of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR), was published in the Azerbaijan State Translation Centre. The book containing articles, speeches, travel notes, diplomatic correspondence, historical research studies, and artistic publicism of the prominent figure, which was published on the eve of the 100th anniversary of ADR, was translated from Russian by Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev, who wrote a comprehensive prologue and a wide range of explanations. 

On January 26, 2018, the presentation ceremony of the book “The Tragedy of Man” written by famous Hungarian poet Imre Madach and jointly translated into Azerbaijani by literarian Rasim Muzaffarli and Hungarian specialist on Azerbaijani philological sciences Maria Kennessy was held in Balashicyarmata, Hungary. 

On April 26, 2018, the 3rd International Scientific Conference of Young Scientists entitled “Sustainable Regional Development” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary, University of St. Istvan and Warsaw University of Natural Sciences in Gödöllö, Hungary. The diplomats accredited in Budapest, representatives of Hungarian authorities, and nearly 100 young scientists from 32 countries attended the conference. The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev, Deputy Director of the International Relations Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Laslo Vasa and Professor of the Warsaw University of Natural Sciences Mikhail Vielechowski participated in the conference.

On May 2, the presentation ceremony of the two volumes of the trilogy of well-known Azerbaijani writer and publicist, Member of Parliament Elmira Akhundova “Heydar Aliyev: Personality and Time” was organized at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary.

The event dedicated to the 95th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev was attented by Hungarian scholars and writers, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Budapest, journalists, representatives of the Azerbaijani Diaspora and Azerbaijani students.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev made opening speech and presented to the audience the author of the book Elmira Akhundova, also Tamas Varhegyi, who translated the book into Hungarian. The head of the diplomatic representation spoke about the life of the great politician and his working experience under the leadership of Heydar Aliyev.

Then, the author Elmira Akhundova talked about the bright life of the prominent statesman, especially the most memorable episodes of the life of Heydar Aliyev during the difficult period in the history of Azerbaijan in 1991-1993. She also spoke about the future plans in immortalization of the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and announced the titles of her new books dedicated to him.

The author of the translation T.Varhegyi emphasized the importance of informing the Hungarian public about the processes taking place in the region and prominent personalities. Mr. Varhegyi acknowledged that he had a big sense of responsibility during the translation process because Heydar Aliyev was an
extraordinary person. The interpreter expressed confidence that the trilogy and the main hero of the trilogy would help the Hungarian readers to be aware of and love this country, as well as understand the country's problems and difficulties, to believe in the bright future of this beautiful country and its people.

At the event the academician of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Gabor Hamza, the rector of King Sigismund University Péter Szatmári, Hungary's first ambassador to Azerbaijan Eno Boros, well-known journalists Peter Dunai and Peter Erdeli, the translator of the Azerbaijani literature Maria Kenessy, the chairman of Hungarian-Azerbaijani Friendship Society Svetlana Abdullayeva and other participants shared their impressions about the book.

During the presentation, the participants also expressed a number of views on Heydar Aliyev's life and activities and some questions were answered by the author. 

On May 22, the book “Azerbaijan at Paris Peace Conference” was translated into Hungarian language and published by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary. Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev wrote prologue and prepared the book where one of the important political-historical documents entitled “Demands of the Republic of Caucasian Azerbaijan at Paris Peace Conference” disseminated in English and French by the delegation of Azerbaijan led by the Head of Azerbaijani Parliament A.M.Topchubashev at the Conference in 1919-1920 was submitted. The book also describes the life of the representatives of the delegation afterwards.

On May 27, within the framework of events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic, the march entitled “100 students”, which gathered Azerbaijani students and their friends, was organized with the initiative and support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary. The activity was dedicated to the memory of 100 young people who were sent to various European countries with the purpose of higher education by Azerbaijani Democratic Republic in 1920.

Prior to the march of 100 students with white t-shirts with “Republic of Azerbaijan – 100 years” printed on it, participated in the flash mob, that illustrated colors of Azerbaijani flag and 100 as a number. The number of participants during the march was similar to the number of students sent in that year and more than 150 students not only from Budapest but also from other Hungarian cities attended the event.

Later students marched from the historical Heroes’ Square of Budapest towards the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary through crowded Andrassy Avenue by enthusiastically singing the National Anthem and chanting various slogans. In the Embassy, students, Hungarian media representatives and Diaspora members participated in the ceremony dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic.

Ceremony started with live performance of the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Hungary Vilayat Guliyev informed students about corresponding order of the President of Azerbaijan that declares 2018 as the year of Azerbaijani Democratic Republic. Ambassador gave comprehensive information about the challenges in formation of ADR, its role in the history of nation, and the foreign policy, cultural and military activities of the national government.

Then a documentary film “Long-life Mission” which illustrates participation and struggle of Azerbaijani delegation in Paris Peace Conference was exhibited.   

On June 1-3, the conference on the integration of Azerbaijani youth living in Hungary to the local community, structures of public and private sectors as well as political institutions was jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary and Hungarian-Azerbaijani Youth Union in Budapest.

On December 7, the presentation ceremony of the book “Azerbaijan at Paris Peace Conference” written by Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev and published in Hungarian, English and French was held at the house museum of academician George Hazai (Gyorgy Hazai). Scholar-turkologists, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, the local community, and Azerbaijani Diaspora, diplomatic corps accredited in the country, Azerbaijani students and local journalists attended the event.

Addressing the event, Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev provided detailed information about the activities of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and noted that his book contains information on the difficult and glorious activities of Azerbaijani delegation sent to Paris Peace Conference on the direction of the recognition of the young Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in international spheres. 

In 2018, the following books were prepared, translated, edited, published and scientifically advised by Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev:

Culture, Art 

On January 27, the 14th annual Intercultural Festival was held at the Central European University in Budapest. The event featured national music and dance performances with participation of foreign students, as well as international culinary competitions. Azerbaijani students studying at the mentioned university also participated in the event, performing national dance and exhibiting samples from national cuisine. The Azerbaijani Corner organized with the support of the Embassy was met with a great interest of the event participants.

On March 19, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary organized an event dedicated to the Novruz holiday. Nearly 100 Azerbaijani and 50 foreign students studying in Hungary attended the event. Addressing the event, Ambassador V.Guliyev congratulated the guests on Novruz holiday, conveyed his best wishes and talked about the traditions of the holiday. The event featured delicious dishes of Azerbaijani cuisine, the table decorated with various patterns of Novruz sweets was laid, the “samovar tea” was brewed, and the bonfire as a main attribute of Novruz was made in the yard of the Embassy. 

On 14th of April, 2018 International Cultural Evening was organized in Szeget, Hungary. At the event, in which 2300 guests were gathered, students demonstrated their national music and dances, as well as participated in the culinary competition. Azerbaijani students studying in the above mentioned university presented national dances and traditional cuisine.

Azerbaijani students started their presentation with live performance of “Azerbaijan” song by Muslim Magomayev, cheered up all the guests with the “Biz mehriban ailəyik” (We are an affectionate family) song by Tofig Guliyev. Moreover, students in detailed way informed the guests about the national dance – “Yallı” and then performed the dance to guests.

During the event, organized with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Hungary at the eve of the 100th anniversary of Azerbaijani Republic, participants showed interest to the books, brochures and other printed products about Azerbaijan, and especially, to the samples of national cuisine exhibited in the Azerbaijani corner. 

On May 17, the opening ceremony of the personal exhibition of the well-known Azerbaijani photographer Agdes Baghirzade with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary was held at the famous gallery located in the historic part of Budapest.

The exhibition was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Azerbaijan and lasted for three days. The author presented interesting photos taken in Baku Puppet Theatre during “Leyli and Majnun” spectacle of the great Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov. 

On 30 May, within the framework of the events organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Azerbaijan at Yunus Emre Institute, the opening ceremony of the personal exhibition named “Hun-Turkish Symbols from East to West” of Ilham Enveroglu, Azerbaijani artist living in Turkey and professor of the Faculty of Art of Selcuk University, took place.  

The representatives of diplomatic corps accredited in Budapest, local community and mass media, members of Azerbaijani Diaspora and Azerbaijani students studying in this country attended the opening ceremony, which hosted 150 participants and was held with the Embassy's initiative and organizational support. 

10-12 avqust tarixlərdə Macarıstanda fəaliyyət göstərən Turan Fondunun təşkilatçılığı ilə bu ölkənin Buqats bölgəsindəki Kişkunşak Milli parkında 6-cı hun-türk qurultayı keçirilmişdir.

Qurultayın rəsmi açılış mərasimində Macarıstan Parlamentinin spikeri Laslo Köver, Turan Fondunun rəhbəri Andraş Biro və əcnəbi nümayəndə heyətlərinin təmsilçiləri çıxış etmişlər.

 Tədbirə qatılan səfir Vilayət Quliyev açılış mərasimində çıxış etmişdir.

Qurultayda həmçinin Azərbaycan Milli Məclisinin üzvü Qənirə Paşayeva və ölkəmizi təmsil edən incəsənət xadimləri iştirak etmişdir.

 Bununla yanaşı, Azərbaycan Respublikasının Macarıstandakı səfirliyi və Yunus Emre İnstitutunun dəstəyi ilə qurulmuş birgə çadırda Türkiyədə yaşayan Azərbaycanlı rəssam İlham Ənvəroğlunun fərdi sərgisi təşkil edilmiş, habelə Azərbaycan suvenirləri və tətbiqi sənət nümunələri nümayiş etdirilmiş və tədbirə qatılan Azərbaycanlı musiqiçilər musiqi proqramı ilə çıxış etmişlər. 

On August 10-12, the Turan Foundation in Hungary organized the 6th Hun-Turkic Congress in the Kiskunsak National Park in Buqats. The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament Laszlo Kover, the Chairman of Turan Foundation Andras Biro and representatives of foreign delegations, as well as Ambassador Vilayat Guliyev delivered speeches at the official opening ceremony. Representing our country, member of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ganira Pashayeva and prominent figures of Azerbaijani art also participated in the Congress. A personal painting exhibition of Azerbaijani artist Ilham Enveroglu, Azerbaijani souvenirs and art samples were demonstrated, and Azerbaijani musicians performed in the tent jointly organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary and the Yunus Emre Institute. 

On December 2, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary participated in the 8th annual Diplomatic Charity Fair at Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest, traditionally organized under the auspices of Hungary’s First Lady, Mrs. Anita Herches.

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Hungary was represented with a particular corner in the Charity Fair in the current year, similar to previous ones. Samples from Azerbaijani national cuisine, sweets, food products, and souvenirs were presented to the guests attended the Charity Fair.
